My wonderful Grandma Louise passed from this existence on November 30th, 2002. She was an amazing woman and I believe that she decided that she wanted to be home for the holidays. Her funeral was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it was very nice. I am grateful that she was able to finally be released from her tired body. She could no longer see or hear well. She was on oxygen because of congestive heart failure and now those things no longer plague her. She could make homemade ice cream and cake like nobody else. Every Sunday evening during my youth, you would find our family at her home either gathered around the kitchen table playing games and enjoying the ice cream or outside playing with cousins (after the ice cream and cake had been consumed) until darkness fell....depending on the season. She made me many beautiful outfits throughout my life. Her handiwork is amazing. Every Easter I could look forward to a beautiful dress. The quilt on my bed was made she and I together. It is a puff quilt in the colors of dark green, maroon and cream. We pieced it and stuffed it while watching the Barcelona Olympics on Television so we named it the Barcelona. The Christmas stockings that are hanging up in the family room were stitched with love by her and one year she made tree skirts for the families...I was blessed....I got her original tree skirt. So when the tree goes up her tree skirt goes underneath it. I am so grateful that I had the chance to know her for as long as I have. She touched my life and my heart in many, many ways. I am grateful that I have so many reminders of her around me in my home. And I am glad that my kids had the chance to know her. I am sure that she is up in heaven right now having chats with Jillian, giving her some sound advice and hugging her for us. I will miss her but I am happy for her. I love you Grandma Louise.
