Well McKenna decided to take the role of hair stylist upon herself for both her and George this afternoon. While I was on the computer and they were watching Sesame Street (within my earshot but not sight) she got a hold of some scissors and cut a big chunk of her bangs out, a couple of good chunks from the back of one of her French braids and some off of the top of her head as well. She also managed to cut George's already short hair enough that I had to buzz it. Then, on top of that she came in and told me that George had done this. So I start to get after George and he starts crying saying that he didn't do it. I look at McKenna and ask her if she is telling the truth. Nope. She lied to me. I was pretty darn upset about the whole situation. I know it is just hair and that it will grow back but we have told her time and again that scissors are for paper and not for hair. She knew better. She cried for a better part of an hour while I tried to fix the mess as best I could. I told her that I was more upset that she had lied to me than I was that she had done the cutting. She also knows that we don't allow lying and that if you lie you get in bigger trouble than if you just tell the truth. I felt for her as she was crying and hopefully she will learn her lesson this time and not decide to go into the salon business again until she is old enough to go to beauty school. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera on hand to take pictures.
I haven't felt the urge to blog much lately. Not sure why...just haven't.
McKenna is loving pre-school, like I knew she would. She is the biggest kid in the class by far. I guess that makes sense with her just missing the deadline for Kindergarten by three days...but dang! The rest of those kids look like pip squeaks. I can't believe that those little things will be going into Kindergarten next year. Jona seems to be doing well in his class too. It's hard to get him to talk about school. You have to be very specific in the questions that you ask if you want to get any answers. It can be frustrating at times. George is sad that he can't go to school but he is surviving. We signed him up for a reading program at the local library on Wednesdays when McKenna is in preschool. That starts this week so that should help him out a bit.
My dad made and installed a flag pole for us just in time for Sept. 11th and mom and dad gave us a flag to fly on it. My parents are so great. I just love them. I talked with my mom this morning and she said that we about lost my grandma this weekend. Our phone was out for some weird reason and she couldn't get a hold of us. She was going to come over and tell us but never did. Fortunately grandma is still with us. For but a little while longer I believe. I am going up today or tomorrow to see her. I know that she will be missed when she goes but her poor body and spirit have had enough and I hope that she can go peacefully soon.
While shopping at Roberts on Saturday I thought I saw an old boyfriend from my high school days. I couldn't tell for sure if it was him or not because if it was him he has put on a bit of weight (okay a lot of weight) and he had a beard and mustache. I didn't say anything to him because the last time I saw him he didn't seem to want to talk to me and because I wasn't sure if it was him. He looked like either he was having a bad day or he was miserable. I am hoping that he was just having a bad day. If it was him I will be pretty astonished. Oh well unless I run into him again I will never know for sure.
And lastly Halloween is coming. How do I know this? Because there have been more hits on this site coming from "Larry Boy Costume" searches than usual so I thought that maybe I should post a picture of Jona in his Larry Boy Costume that I made last year. It was a big hit. Not sure what we have in mind for this year. McKenna just wants to be a princess again and George would probably be happy with Superman for one more year. Jona on the other hand will probably want to be Yugi or some type of Pokemon character. That's what he is into now.
