Alrighty! I'm back in business. I've been wanting to blog for last few days and now I can. First of all, thanks to my wonderful dh for putting this all together and getting me back online. Don't you think he did a wonderful job? I do.
The last few days have been pretty eventful. On Wednesday the Olympic torch came just 3 miles from our home so I bundled up the kids and Ty's Grandma, my mom the kids and I all braved the cold and an early morning to see a part of history. It was very cool. We got an "I saw the flame" flag from Coca-Cola and a free bottle of Coke. McKenna and George had a hard time just before the flame arrived...they were getting pretty cold. They did enjoy the fireworks that were shot off just before the flame came past. There were tons of people lining the route and they kept telling everyone to step back but we would step back a couple of steps and then creep back out again. Donny Osmond was the torch bearer. It is still hard to believe that I actually saw the Olympic flame with my own eyes and that flame was then passed on and I watched it last night light the Olympic Cauldron at Rice Eccles stadium at the University of Utah my alma mater. Way Cool. Hard to put into words. I loved the Opening Ceremony. I think that they did a wonderful job. How incredible to see the flag from the World Trade Center and to hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing the national anthem. It brought tears to my eyes. My favorite part of the evening was when they showed the big puppets of the animals of the American West. The Grizzly bear with the trout jumping around it and the Beaver and who could forget that cool Moose? The Bison with the Rattle Snake? That was incredible. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir did a tremendous job and I was thrilled that John Williams was the writer and director of the theme of the 2002 winter games "Call of the Champions" I LOVED that song...along with the fireworks going off. To see the cauldron lit. And to end it all with "Ode to Joy" It was perfect. I know I left much out but those are the moments that stick in my mind.
We are going to take the kids and go right into down town Salt Lake on Presidents day to see the sights and get a bit of taste of the Olympic spirit. I can't wait to see the buildings all draped with those banners up close. If you want to see a cool pictures of those up close go here. I think those huge building pictures are the coolest. I also want to go up one day without the kids but who knows. Well I am glad to be back I hope that I can keep things up to date here.
