General Information/Races/Giants

From Westaven

Whether giants are another race, the results of a genetic mutation, or some other magical creation is unknown. While most Westaveners accept giants exist (usually in the high mountains)--and some tales exist of giants having marauded civilized lands during the Pall Years and fought in wars of ages gone by--in the modern era they are largely absent.

The only known giants are the temple guards of the Oracles of Trin. These monstrous humanoids stand about half again as tall as the tallest of men. They are armed in scale armor down to their knees & high boots, plus full helmets of the ancient Aenean style; these helmets cover most of their necks & faces & their boots are high, so only their bare forearms are exposed. This armor was (obviously) custom-made, and is also both ceremonial and functional. Because of this armor one cannot see their bodies clearly, but they are misshapen, grotesque, and if of normal stature would be considered hunchbacked freaks. They literally seem ugly chunks of mountain stone turned flesh. But as giants, carrying in their gnarled hands tremendous shields as large as doors and either huge maces or spears tall and thick as sapling oaks, they are quite menacing. These giants speak in very hoarse lisps, and do not appear very intelligent, for they are easily confused. In combat, while actually quite fast for their size, their tactics are extremely basic: shield bash and smash, relying on strength and unnerving their enemy from their intimidating size.

On 12 Aug 986, two giants were led to Yule , Gereth, Nak'hat, and Lothar (and Ves) on the road to Trin by an unwitting cooper named Pogh. This led to a battle, during which the giants were slain. A week or so later, a third Trin giant's corpse was mysteriously discovered by the men on the Trepindian Holy Isle.
