Pollexia is currently (since the 960s AE) divided into eleven "kingdoms" (alternatively, and perhaps more accurately known as "regions" or simply "lands"), each with its own ruling powers, military force, capital, etc. Although at one time most kingdoms were independent city-states, ruled by a "king," the ruler of each is in the modern era is known simply as a "Lord" or "High Lord"--a title and position officially meted out by the Emperor, although in practice also heavily influenced by the political posturings of the nobles.
