Nak Quell is the invented name of a gelatinous paste created on 14 Aug. 986 by naturalist Ves to aid Nak'hat in "quelling" his seasickness. Unfortunately, this backfired, and Nak'hat's first dose became deathly ill, placing him in a coma.

The concoction was created when Ves "took a little bit of barley, scullcap, and valerian and let them dry out. Then I boiled them in water mixed will a some wine. Then I ground it all up into paste." The result is a gooey, yellow-green paste which relaxes the consumer's entire system. The downside is the side effect of sleepiness. Each dose lasts 12 hours, and a normal batch (created in 12-16 hours) creates 6 doses. Is perishable, and lasts only until dried out or 2 weeks, whichever is sooner.

  • In game mechanics, this paste allows +1 rolls to avoid seasickness (+2 if the batch was created by a particularly skilled pharmacist).
    • The positive result will be no seasickness, although a bit of drowsiness.
    • Negative results simply means seasickness and drowsiness!
    • Critical failure means: Roll vs. will-2 every two hours to avoid falling asleep. Nauseated (-2 to all attribute rolls and -1 to active def.) Roll every hour if suffering from motion sickness if fail.. retching for 25-HT turns. Lose 1 fatigue at the end.. ..Coma if fall asleep (see B429).

Note: after the failure of the first attempt, which so harmed Nak'hat, Ves stated: "Revised 'Nak Quell' - Hops, Yellow Root, and Valerian. Boil the hops and yellow root, let the valerian dry. Make a paste from the hops and yellow root, and cut the dried valerian into a fine dust, then mix it with paste of the yellow root and hops while adding a small amount of vinegar. That's what I will do next time, for hopefully a better effect!"
