General Information/Events/Bandits Incident

From Westaven

On the 19th of September, 985, the man-at-arms Borist and his fur merchant employer, Shimtalk, were ambushed on the road to Piercy by a group of Bandits who had "set up shop" along the country road in order to rob passing travellers. In the attempt to fight off the bandits, the lead bandit, "Tubby", struck Borist from behind, killing him.

The death of Borist--and the consequent revenge Shimtalk sought--ultimately led to the first adventure of the Westaven Campaign. Two days after the event, Shimtalk witnessed Yule and Eaidig in a street fight with Thort, and convinced them to help him. Davlin, who was staying with Shimtalk at the time as a family friend, was persuaded to help as well. (Gelash was also included in this first party due to his having known Davlin before.) This group of five set out on September 25, 985 from Eneini--although Heron, who had also been hired as a member of the party, was not present until two days later, on the road, after the actual battle.

On September 27th, the bandits were confronted where the road ran through a grove of trees. In a plan to lure out the thieves, Davlin hid in the wagon, while Eaidig used his woodsman's stealth to flank the ambushers--which worked well. In the fray, Yule showed great skill and valor by immobilizing both "Tubby" and "Sneer" (the latter with assistance of a fireball from Davlin's hands), and practicially slicing another thug in half.

"Tubby", "Sneer", and Tormby were healed by Davlin then taken to Piercy, where they were turned over to Bailiff Tuckson on Sept. 30. In the days that followed, Tubby and Sneer were beheaded, while Tormby was handed over to Gharvsmin as a blood sacrifice to his god. (see "Confronting Gharvsmin" on this last point.)

The official end to this sequence of events occurred on October 7, 985, when the party (sans Gelash, who had quit the fellowship) returned to Eneini, mission accomplished. Unfortunately, disaster marked that last day, for when reporting to the hall of the Eneini Merchants' Guild for their pay, the party was attacked, resulting in "The Battle of the Merchants' Guildhall".
