[edit] Description
The first things people notice about Gereth are the high widow’s peak atop his forehead and his long brilliant white hair and beard. If they have the presence of mind to look at his eyes, they see an equally brilliant green, not the muddy green one so often sees but the luminous green of tree leaves at noon. His face and skin are slightly tanned and promise to darken significantly given a bit more sun. Gereth has taken to wearing a worn travel cloak with the hood up. He carries his quarterstaff with him always and the way he leans upon it, it is little wonder that many mistake him for an old man. At 6'1" Gereth stands taller than most and at 150 lbs he seems almost too thin but the casual observer rarely realizes this as he often walks hunched over to avoid drawing attention to himself. Although certainly not handsome and still far from ugly, Gereth's is a face that is rather hard to forget once seen.
[edit] History
Gereth was born 24 January 948 in the Hargold home at Civnadia as the second son of Torson and Janæl Hargold. The midwife had been paid to deliver the child, declare it dead and then give the child another to raise. The midwife did just that forcing a vile of sedative down the child’s throat before it could even draw a breath, the sedative permanently damaged the infant’s vocal cords. The midwife allowed Janæl to see her “dead” son before taking the body away so the family would not have to keep a “corpse” in their home overnight. The midwife hurried away to her own home where a servant waited to take the child. The midwife was paid and the child was spirited away to Hadrian. Misfortune abounded in Civnadia that night though, for the midwife’s home erupted in flames shortly after the servant left and the poor woman was trapped inside.
Gereth discovered his true identity during the fall of 985. At that time he abandoned the man who had arranged for his kidnapping and whom Gereth had called father for 37 years. Gereth refuses to talk about his childhood and indeed considers his "fomer self" dead.
