Call me Naryt. Some years ago -- never mind how long precisely -- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore . . . oh, wait that's the wrong story.
Naryt is, of course, me and I am Naryt so feel free to call me Fred, no one else does but hey, dare to be different! Viva la Chicken! Although I've been interested in RPGs (Role Playing Games) since the early 80's, my "official" first expierence with an RPG came over the summer with the GURPS adventure A Caravan to Ein Arris. The reason I started looking into RPGs this summer is that my oldest son has autism. Role playing is a good way for him to explore social interactions in a setting where he feels safe. Now the reason we play (my wife, my 10 year old son, 8 year old daughter, six year old son and me) is that we really enjoy playing.
So, what kind of player am I? Uncle Figgy would likely say that I'm somewhere between power gamer/munchkin and a mad gamer. Some would also say that I am a Rules Lawyer but I make it a personal habit to lawyer up before the game begins. I want to make sure that my character fits within the rules that I'm expected to use and so I will question almost everything. Once the game begins though, the lawyering comes to an end. I want to play not argue a point. If none of that makes sense or if you wonder why someone would want to role play or what role playing even is, perhaps a quick look at what Uncle Figgy has to say on the subject would help.
Naryt,
I need more paper for my journal. The sheaf you gave me yesterday seems to have burst into flames.
Thanks,
Davlin
